  20 October 2004

The Vancouver Organising Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) has announced Bell Canada as its first Premier National Partner. The deal will see Bell Canada as a VANOC partner until 2012 and assures Bell team sponsorship rights to the Canadian Olympic Team for all the Olympic Summer and Winter Games up to and including 2012.

Bell commits c$200 million to VANOC

Bell Canada’s deal with VANOC represents a value to VANOC of C$200 million. This figure can be broken down into three principal areas. Firstly, Bell will provide VANOC with approximately C$60 million in critical communications services that will be required to run the 2010 Games in Vancouver and Whistler. Secondly, Bell will make a cash contribution of C$90 million towards the acquisition of the rights to the VANOC/Canadian team sponsorship through 2012, and, lastly, they will contribute about C$50 million in cash and value-in-kind to promoting the 2010 Games.

  A rigorous selection process

Commenting on the choice of Bell Canada as VANOC’s first Premier National Partner, John Furlong, VANOC’s CEO, said, “We are extremely pleased to announce this association with one of Canada’s most respected corporations.” He continued, “We have come through a very rigorous selection process and we believe Bell Canada will be an excellent partner in helping us stage outstanding Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2010.
