On 17 June, a taskforce of 50 “Designated Air-pollution Supervisors,” holding letters of appointment from the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau, take on the responsibility of supervising the prevention of air-pollution in Beijing. Among them are representatives of People’s committees, members of the Political Consultation Association, experts, citizens and journalists.
Employing supervisors is not only one of the key criterion points of the Regulation for Air-Pollution Precaution, The 10th Phase legislation implemented by the Beijing Municipal government, but also constitutes an excellent opportunity for public participation in the movement. The supervisors will mainly focus on supervising provisional governments and relevant departments in their adherence to the legislation whilst managing contraventions and breaches of the legislation. The supervisors will also provide consultancy services for the management and prevention of air-pollution.
