On October 28, the 3rd meeting of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games opened in Beijing. Present at the meeting were: President of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) Liu Qi, Director of China’s General Administration of Sport, Yuan Weimin, BOCOG Executive President, Wang Qishan, and President of China Disabled People’s Federation (CDPF), Deng Pufang. The meeting was chaired by IOC Coordination Commission Chairman Hein Verbruggen.
Liu Qi: Learn the lessons
In his address to the meeting, Liu Qi remarked that BOCOG has learnt from the experience of the Athens Games, and is in the process of refining its work operations and processes according to the lessons learnt and knowledge gained.
According to Liu Qi, BOCOG has adjusted the locations of four venues, in light of recent recommendations from the IOC and the International Sports Federations (IFs). Recognizing the progress made by BOCOG since its establishment, Liu also pointed out that BOCOG would continue coordinating and cooperating with the IOC, IFs, and the National Olympic Committees. Finally, he added that BOCOG would strive to realize the ideals encapsulated in the key Olympic themes.
Liu Jingmin, BOCOG Executive Vice-President, also gave a presentation on the progress made by BOCOG since the 2nd meeting of the IOC Coordination Commission.
Focus of the meeting
It is reported that the meeting focused on such issues as the organization of sporting events, marketing, ticketing, finance and logistics. The meeting will also consider issues regarding the Olympic Village, services to National Olympic Committees, media operations and broadcasting, as well as construction and communications for the Games
A further 100 officials, including Olympic Games Executive Director, Gilbert Felli, also attended the meeting.
